Pulling the Engine

I finally pulled the engine out of my mustang today.

First I removed the transmission cross member.

Then I attached the engine lift, unbolted the engine from its mounting points and pulled the engine.

With the engine out I removed the transmission so I can get the engine ready to go on a stand.

Pulling the Seats

In the middle of getting ready to pull the engine I pulled the seats. Why yes there is a madness to my method.

The front seats are supposed to be bolted on with four nuts, only the front pair was there on each seat, yikes!

Hanging the hood on the wall

I hung the hood on the wall tonight up on a couple of shelf brackets fastened to studs with GRK structural lag screws. She looks good up there.

Removing the hood latch from the hood

I removed the hood latch from the hood today.

This thing could use a good cleaning but still works.

Attached the engine leveler to the engine

I attached the engine leveler to the engine today. Getting closer to pulling this engine. I had to grind a bit of extra metal off the attachments to make them fit.

Removing the Valve Cover

We in-bolted the valve cover tonight so we get to the head bolts I am going to put the chains on to pull the engine.

Taking the Hurst Shifter off the Transmission

We took the Hurst Shifter off the transmission today.

Removing the Driveshaft

We removed the driveshaft from the Mustang yesterday. (My 7yr old son did most of the un-bolting.)

Removing the stone guard from a 1968 Mustang

The stone guard is held on by 10 bolts with 1/2 inch SAE heads.

My car was missing this one when I got it so that left nine for me to remove.

Two inside each wheel well.

Four along the top at the front behind where the bumper sits.

Two at the bottom of the car.

My bolts were rusted into place and didn't want to come out. My father in law left his  big socket breaker bar here a while ago and that was just what I needed.

One of the bolts just twisted around and broke the tab in the stone guard, so that one is still in the car.

Here is the stone guard off the car. I decided I didn't trust the wires for the lights in it so I just cut them and will do new eventually.

And here is the front of my car without the stone guard.

Next up on the list is the front grill. Hopefully that can come off this week.
